GENERAL COMMENTS ABOUT THE PURPOSE OF A RETREAT

A retreat is something we – the Meditation Network of the British Isles – would or generally will recommend once you have learnt TM and have been practicing it for at least 3-4 months.

This is not to go all mystical on you & state that somehow an individual becomes a more advanced meditator after 3-4 months and therefore is more capable of this practice.

As soon as you have completed your 4 sessions of instruction and given a week or two you will be as good a TM meditator as anyone on the Planet.

The idea with the retreat is that after 3-4 months you have given your mind and body some time and space to become accustomed and have adjusted to this practice and so a Retreat is a time and place where traditionally  we do more meditation than normally we will in our daily life in the outside World.

How much meditation is guided by the teacher – through interaction with the group and individual meditators either together or privately (according to what is comfortable to each individual).

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi always stressed the importance of “the principle of a comfortable ride.”

Therefore some individuals may simply remain with just the standard two meditations a day – possibly sometimes even reduced minutes in order to feel comfortable.

A retreat can be a blessed opportunity to remove our individual lives from the excessive noise and pollution of our World and simply enjoy Nature, the great company of like minded people, good quality nourishing food and meditation in combination.

These factors all together are of deep value – from time to time in practical life. It is a practical approach to managing Life. To keeping ourselves in the best balance possible.
